PTM develops and produces all kinds of sports and orthopedic bands. They have adopted 3D printing to solve a very simple problem, the lack of custom body parts to test their products. For example, in the past,Ā  if they wanted to test their knee braces, they had to buy a whole mannequin. Now they can print their own parts and choose different positions to stress test their materials.

After tackling that problem, they quickly identified other uses. The most significant one is the customization of one of their velcro machines, which needed to be stopped several times per hour to change velcro rolls of different widths. By adding a very simple custom piece, they can now run multiple rolls in parallel and what used to take them around 8 hours a day, now takes them less than 5.
